Philip J. Sullivan is a partner of Sullivan, McGibbons & Associates LLP. Mr. Sullivan’s practice involves the representation of clients in estate planning, estate and trust administration, probate, estate and gift tax audits, and charitable planning.
Mr. Sullivan is admitted to practice law in California and Pennsylvania. He received his law degree, cum laude, from Villanova University Law School in 1988, and his Master in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1995. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Seton Hall University in 1985, where he graduated magna cum laude.
Mr. Sullivan is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel “ACTEC” and a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Probate and Trust Law (California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization). Mr. Sullivan is a Member of the San Diego County Bar Association (Estate Planning and Probate Section), and the State Bar of California. He is an Adjunct Professor and Lecturer at the California Western School of Law and the University of San Diego School of Law. He is a frequent lecturer on estate and trust topics and has presented for ALI-ABA, NBI and CEB.
Mr. Sullivan has been recognized as a California “Super Lawyer” by Super Lawyers® magazine in the area of estate planning. Mr. Sullivan also has received the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards (“AV Preeminent”) from the Martindale Hubbell® peer review rating service. He is also a founding Board Member of the North County Estate Planning Council.
Prior to joining Sullivan, McGibbons & Associates LLP, Mr. Sullivan was a partner at Henderson, Caverly, Pum & Charney LLP for 8 years. Prior to Henderson, Caverly, Mr. Sullivan was a partner in the Family Wealth and Exempt Organizations Practice Group at Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP in San Diego, where he practiced for 13 years. He started his legal career as a litigation attorney at the law firm of Shanley & Fisher in Morristown, New Jersey and also worked as a litigation associate at the law firm of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison LLP.
